What Is NanoGuard™? The Difference Between an Uncoated Surface vs. a NanoGuard™ Coated Surface

NanoGuard™ is a nanotechnology-based liquid polymer that is applied to our bath or basin surface and creates a ceramic-like invisible protective layer. It comes standard with all black NeroX bathtubs and basins manufactured starting late October 2019. Application to white AquateX is optional.

What is it?

The easiest way is to understand NanoGuard™ is to think of it as a second layer of skin, or a sacrificial layer of protection over your bathtub's surface.

NanoGuard™ utilizes nanotechnology and tiny particles that form a very fine, thin layer completely invisible to the eye. Because these particles are so small, when applied to a surface, they seal all the surface pores making the surface hydrophobic (water-repellent), resistant to UV, minor scratches, harsh chemicals, and anti-graffiti. NanoGuard™ is completely transparent.

How Does It Work?

The nanocoating chemically bonds with AquateX™ or NeroX™ bath and basin surfaces in the process creating a semi-permanent bond and a layer of ‘sacrificial’ protection that will not wash away or break down and does not require repeated application every few months. In fact, it lasts years.

NanoGuard™ helps with keeping our baths and basins looking like-new with comparatively minimal maintenance. The coating achieves this by making our solid surface bathtubs and basins more resilient and easier to clean. Here are the main benefits:

Ease Of Cleaning

This is the single most significant feature of NanoGuard™ and it is absolutely crucial for a good everyday performance and durability of black or any other deep dark color solid surface bathtubs and lavatories, especially if used in commercial applications. Because the nanocoating is superhydrophobic or simply speaking water repellent when a bathtub or a lavatory has our hydrophobic NanoGuard™ surface, water will bead on the surface and slide off easily. This means that bath salts, soap, oily fingerprints, and bath oils will have a more difficult time bonding to your bathtub's surface, and when you clean your bathtub or basin, contaminants can be removed with substantially less effort.

Superb Outdoor Performance and Protection From Prolonged UV Damage & Oxidization

If your bathtub and especially your black bathtub is often exposed to the sunlight or used outdoors on a terrace, its surface might begin to oxidize, resulting in a dulled and faded surface. Deep dark colors are especially susceptible to dulling. NanoGuard™ will protect your bathtub’s surface from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, thereby reducing the amount of oxidization and preserves its original appearance for years to come.

Another danger to your bathtub surface is chemical staining from red wine, household chemicals, cleaners, paints, acetone, and other harsh substances. By creating a chemically resistant ceramic-like protective layer NanoGuard™ offers superior protection from damaging surface contamination and harsh chemicals. Both the superhydrophobic and anti-graffiti effect combined mean that bathtubs coated with NanoGuard™ will be substantially more resistant to anti-graffiti, staining, and etching, provided the contaminant is removed in a timely manner.
